On Wednesday, dozens of residents, advocates, former police officers, and faith leaders spoke at a public hearing in City Hall in favor of Medaria “Rondo” Arradondo’s confirmation to become Minneapolis’ Chief of Police. It’s an important step forward for our police department, residents, and entire city.
Minneapolis, when we meet the tests in front of us, there will be no limits on the One Minneapolis we get to be.
We need a tested, progressive mayor who has real results of substance, true depth of experience, and unshakeable strength of character to lead our city in this unprecedented time.
“I support Mayor Hodges because she is the proven and strong progressive leader our city needs. Betsy governs with integrity, sticking to the values she ran on four years ago and building broader support for change. At a time when the role of cities has expanded to tackle our society’s toughest problems, Mayor Hodges has been consistent, thoughtful and creative in her leadership.”
Two years ago, I was honored to be one of 60 mayors from around the world invited by Pope Francis to take part in a global climate conference at the Vatican. One thing was clear – we need to start at the local level to work against the effects we are having on our environment and on our fellow humans. Our work against climate change is more than just about limiting carbon emissions, it’s about working toward environmental justice.
“We still have a lot of work to do to make Minneapolis a city that works for all residents, but even through disagreements, Mayor Hodges has listened and brought in community input about tough decisions. Our members did not hear a compelling argument to change the course as we fight to address the issues facing working families in Minneapolis,” said SEIU Minnesota State Council President Jamie Gulley.
As your Mayor, I’ve been committed to making Minneapolis the best, most attractive and successful place for all, including businesses that help boost our economy. As our city expands, we need to ensure the growth is both equitable and sustainable.
