Betsy Files for Re-election
MINNEAPOLIS - City Council Member Betsy Hodges, the DFL endorsed candidate for City Council in Ward 13, filed for re-election today.
"I have been honored and proud to represent Ward 13 on the City Council these last four years," said Hodges. "The City, like all of us, is facing unprecedented budget challenges, and I am running for re-election to help make the tough decisions that are coming. But we must also never lose sight of the City's brighter future, and I will work with the community to build toward that shared vision."
Since taking office in December of 2005, Council Member Hodges has taken the lead on issues such as changing the City's zoning code to address the issue of oversized homes; reform of the City's closed pension funds; and improving the City's relationships with the Parks, Schools, and County. She also successfully worked with residents and City staff to repave 54th street, initiate the organic waste composting pilot project, increase public safety in the ward, and address neighborhood traffic management issues.
Going forward, Hodges plans to continue her work on the budget's bottom line, including fighting for pension reform; responding to constituent concerns; and taking the lead on priorities such as the City's financial relationship with the State of Minnesota.
